The Counseling Practice
Building Confidence. Finding Answers. Feeling Better.

Individual Therapy

Our world and our lives are ever changing and often it is easy to feel alone in finding the answers we need to solve our problems and feel more peace of mind. In our fast paced world there is no blue print for success and happiness despite our best intentions. Some of the difficult challenges we see include the following:

* Financial Stress and worry about money.

* Depression and anxiety.

* Feeling stuck in the same pattern or situation without any clear path forward.

* Problems in relationships.

* Coping with difficulties at work and balancing it with life at home.

* Feeling grief and loss and like the world is leaving us behind.

* Managing anger.

* Addiction (substance abuse, internet, relationships, sex).

* Coping with present or past trauma.

It can be difficult to identify behaviors and patterns that have become stumbling blocks to achieving the life we want. If you are struggling with letting go of negative behaviors or working through a life-changing situation, I can help you gain clarity about yourself your patterns in relationships and develop strategies for growth as you evolve as an individual. In our sessions I will help you:

* Build trust and rapport even when situations feel complicated and overwhelming

* Feel understood and validated so that you don’t feel stuck or alone.

* Access a safe and supportive environment where you can talk honestly and openly about your concerns so that you will not feel interrupted, unheard or judged.

* Develop more confidence and direction so that you may feel better about yourself and the decisions you make.

* Addiction (substance abuse, internet, relationships, sex).

* Get to know your strengths and life challenges so that we can effectively address other problems if/when they come along.

ADOLESCENT COUNSELING

In today’s world, our teens are facing multiple pressures making life stressful. Some of the many challenges we see include:

* Academic difficulties

* Depression

* Peer Pressure

* Bullying of all types

* Anxiety, worry and obsessive thinking

* Conflict at home

* Motivational and conduct concerns

* Low self-esteem or difficulty “fitting in”

* Poor decision-making and lack of good judgment

Although many teens can cope with life’s difficulties, it is important to know when to reach out for help. When is it time to take that next step and ask for help? The following are signs that may be reason for concern:

* Isolation and withdrawal

* Lack of motivation and desire to perform well academically and in other areas.

* Alcohol or drug use.

* Changes in daily habits (sleeping, appetite, etc.)

* Sudden change in support system at school or lacking close, trusted friends.

* Irritability and lack of honest communication.

During our Sessions, you can count on the following:

* An experienced and trained therapist that is able to build trust and rapport even when situations seem complicated and overwhelming

* A feeling of being understood and validated so you don’t have to feel alone.

* Learning practical tools for better coping and making changes.

* Solving the problems and issues that brought you to therapy.

* A safe, supportive environment where problems can be solved now and if they were to recur in the future.

* Hope and confidence for your teen and yourself that difficult problems can be addressed and communication can be improved.

Couples Therapy

Given the complexities, and stress in our complicated world, relationships and marriages face enormous pressure. In today’s world it is simply more difficult for couples to feel close and remain on the same page despite their professed love and commitment to one another. Some of the difficult challenges we see include the following:

* Financial Stress and worry about money.

* Lack of faith and trust in your partners commitment to your relationship.

* Lack of communication and long periods of feeling disconnected from one another.

* Difficulty communicating openly and honestly about concerns without defensiveness, repeated arguments about the same stuff, or walking on eggshells to avoid conflict.

* Lack of physical affection and emotional closeness.

* Feeling alone and more isolated from each other.

Given how important relationships are to our sense of well-being, we are taught remarkably little about them. Couples therapy is much more than the last resort to save a desperate situation. It is the best possible place that couples can resolve differences, rebuild trust and increase your capacity as a couple to be on the same page even during the inevitable difficult stages. During our sessions, you can count on the following:

* I am an experienced and trained therapist that is able to build trust and rapport even when situations feel complicated and overwhelming.

* I assure you that each person will feel validated and understood so that you don’t have to feel alone.

* I will provide a safe and supportive environment where each person can talk honestly and openly about their concerns without feeling interrupted, unheard or misunderstood.

* I will help you learn the most up to date and successful practical skills to improve communication, and build lasting bonds rather than erode them.

* I will work with you to develop a mutual strategy to strengthen your relationship now and in the future.

* I am a skilled and supportive therapist that will get to know your strengths and weaknesses as a couple so that we can address other problems if/when they come up in the future.
